Tasting: April 30, 2011
Kids have been irrationally off the wall today — lots and lots of oppositional defiance. Tempers are short. Time for a glass of wine for the wife and a bomber of IPA for me. I’m trying to get the cedar from the Cigar City Humidor IPA out of my mind and taste buds. I’m assuming this one will be a bit less “gimmicky”. This bottle conditioned ale comes from the craft beer mecca of San Diego. it boasts a ABV of 7.5%. I picked up three bombers.
Pours a light orange and goes still quite quickly. Have to be careful of the yeast carcasses at the bottom of the bottle. This has a very hoppy nose with a subtly sweet undertone. This is a very straightforward IPA. Really well-balanced. Has malty undertones with over abundance of pine/grapefruit hops. Has a nice mouthfeel that leaves my lips sticky with hop resin.
I really enjoyed this one — I give it 90 points
