Tasting: November 2010
I like a beer that is as advertised – this one is on the mark. I am relatively new to rye as a brewing grain so, I was particularly interested in this ale as well as Founders Red’s Rye. The pour is a murky dark copper with a nice head that dissipates quickly. Aroma – I get the spicy rye. Right up front, I get the rye as a combination of sourdough, pepper and nuts along with a subtle sweet molasses. Hop Rod Rye beautifully transitions to a growing bitter hop finish. I really enjoyed sipping this beer as I attempt to re-experience the transition point of rye flavors to the hop wallop.
I loved it, I give it a 9
