Boom Sauce

Tasting: March 21, 2016
Style: IPA
Beer #: 914
ABV:8%

I have seen a number of cans of Boom Sauce included in recent trade pictures. I assume as extras and the general commentary on this beer was pretty good. After finishing this can, I have to admit that I had higher expectations. It may very well be that I’ve become a little jaded as most of the IPA I’ve had over the last three weeks or so has been from Trillium, Tree House, The Alchemist or Lawson’s. I guess I’ve come to expect that an IPA should have some discernible hop characteristic – whether it be citrus, piney or herbal. To its credit, Boom Sauce delivers some minor citrus rind but to its detriment this beer is mostly a muddled pile of bitterness. While it just be the victim of comparisons, so is everything else in life. I’ll put Boom Sauce at an okay 86 points.

Steal This Can

Tasting: March 21, 2016
Style: IPA
Beer #: 915
ABV: 6.5%

Like Boom Sauce, Steal This Can delivers mostly a murky bitterness with perhaps a wisp of citrus. However, in the case of Steal This Can, this IPA is balanced off by enough sweetness to carry the load. I really wish it had a more of a discernible hop character but it’s a decent beer and I’ll put Steal This Can just a tick ahead of at 87 points.

I’ll be on the look out for future offerings from this brewery.
