Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel – Peche Mortal

Tasting: December 31, 2010.
Style: Coffee Stout

Pours dark brown and beautifully cascades to form an amazingly thick head. Once again, I used a half-pint pub glass. I get aromas of vanilla bean and roasted nuts. I’m impressed with the creamy mouthfeel and the taste. Unlike Founders Breakfast Stout (which I liked a lot), the coffee flavor doesn’t crush your taste buds. This stout coats your mouth and leaves you with a mellow and lingering combination of coffee and sweet maltiness. I’m just reading the label — yikes 9.5% ABV – I think one will do. It’s a bit pricey at $6 for one 11.5 oz bottle, but I’ll treat myself every now and then with this one.

I give it a 93.
