15 minute Tour of Brooklyn Brewery

Brooklyn Neon

Brooklyn Brewery

Brooklyn: Sorachi Ace
Style: Farmhouse Ale
ABV: 7.6%

I’m surprised that they called this a Farmhouse Ale as they are typically low in ABV %. Remember they had to work the fields and it was a little easier if they weren’t buzzed. This one is named for the Sorachi hop which is known for grassy/lemon flavor. This one hits me with apple, candy, straw, lemon over the clove of Belgian yeast. A bit too fizzy, but overall it’s a crisp flavorful ale. I’ll put it at 89 points.

Brooklyn Old Post Road
Style: Pumpkin Ale
ABV: 5.0%

I don’t really have anything good to say about this beer. It had only the faintest wisp of pumpkin or pumpkin spice. I guess if you want pumpkin ale that lacked pumpkin influence, this one’s for you — but not for me. I’ll put it at a very mundane 70 points.

Brooklyn Oktoberfest
Style: Oktoberfest Marzen
ABV: 5.5%

Has some of the Marzen sweetness about it but, really faint in flavor. Some nuttiness tucked in the grain profile. I’ll give it props for interesting and sneaky strong hop flavor. Not your typical German hop. Still a bit fizzy for my liking, 77 points.

Brooklyn Local 1
Style: Belgian Strong Ale (I’d call it Triple)
ABV: 9.0%

This one is really nice. It hits you with an elegant tropical fruit like mangoes over peppery spice and banana. A bit too carbonated but the alcohol is nicely concealed. A real pleasant sipper. A really fine example of a Belgian ale. I really like this one and would recommend it at a solid 88 points.
