Tasting: March 30, 2013
Style: IPA (fruit)
Beer #: 452
Another “experimental” brew from the kings of experimentation. Although this one has been around for over a decade, the first time I saw this seasonal IPA in a store was two years ago. I recall being in Stew Leonard’s and I asked a clerk about this beer. He made an odd face — so I dismissed it. Funny, Dogfish Head beer elicits that response often. They make some excellent beer — but they have their share of duds.
Smells of dried candied fruit – should be interesting. A bit fizzy and light in flavor. Mellow and dank resinous hop flavor up front. I get some stickiness in the lips after just a few sips. While I got the apricot in the nose – it’s not so pronounced in the flavor. I’ll give it props that the bitter hops are nicely balanced with sweetness. The bitter and sweet ping-pong on the finish. It’s an interesting novelty beer. I’ll put it at 85 points.
Happy Easter everyone!
