Firestone – Double Jack

Tasting – February 24, 2011
Style – (Double) IPA

I had the Firestone’s Anniversary offering on tap recently and I was really underwhelmed. After that, I had to laugh at $20 price for a bottle — certainly not worth the price. Of course, I’m willing to give Firestone another shot in an entirely different style — as no one needs my forgiveness for what I’d call a poor effort in the beer world (see Dogfish Head — I keep going back). However, I really didn’t like Double Jack at first. Then for some reason, I really enjoyed the second half of this bomber. I’m not sure why — possibly it warmed up a bit and revealed the sweetness of a dark molasses that I enjoyed. To be fair, I’m going to have to double back on Double Jack. I’m going to drag John into this opinion as he’s traded me a Sierra Nevada Hoptimum for a Double Jack. For now I’ll give it an 85.
