Style: Red Ale
Beer #: 503
Pumpkin ales have hit the bargain bin and we’re onto the next seasonal wave — Christmas/Holiday ales. Unfortunately for me, I find that a lot of these ales share the same cinnamon and clove potpourri profile as pumpkin ales and you know I’m not a fan of the style. I take that back – I’m just not a fan of calling something a pumpkin ale and calling the cinnamon and clove combination pumpkin flavor.
Frosted Frog Pours a rich reddish brown and lays down a sweet spicy aroma. First impressions – Frosted Frog truly tastes like a cinnamon-powdered doughnut with clove undertones. Actually, this 8.6% ABV ale is nicely executed. Rich mouthfeel with residual stickiness. What separates it from the phony pumpkin is that the cinnamon is authentic and spicy like real cinnamon. I’ll put it at 87 points.
