Tasting: June 4, 2011
Just finished coaching my two son’s t-ball game. Complete pandemonium – eleven screaming and yelling kids that just won’t listen to instructions. They were doing so well up to this point. I’ll chalk it up to a full moon or a case of the late-day crazies. Just got cleaned up and time to relax with a cold beer.
I bought a single of this one at the Wine & Beverage Depot in Totowa. I see it has a “062111” marking on it — I’m hoping that’s not a best by date. Also from the label — 6% ABV. One of my favorite things from the label is the note that Full Sail is employee owned and made by a brewforce of 47.
Pours a light orange color with a quickly fading head. This one has a subdued nose — but there are hints of grain/bread and slight hops. But on the taste this one surprises. I was expecting a demure IPA, but I get a flash of bread then the hop characteristics take over in the form of an earthy/grassy punch with a subtle pepper. Surprisingly strong hop finish that lingers. I’m left with an interesting astringent puckering mouthfeel. This isn’t bad — but isn’t a classic — I’ll call it okay at around 85 points.
