Haze an American Double IPA by Tree House Brewing

Another piece from the bountiful haul that came courtesy of my friend Mike’s day trip to New England (New Jersey to Boston to Monson and back). I felt sympathetic as he texted that it was pouring rain while he waited nearly two hours on line at Tree House Brewing. Even worse, he said afterwards that he didn’t have any rain gear or even an umbrella. Hopefully, he didn’t catch a pneumonia. Other than the length of the day and the rain, it sounded like it was a great (and successful) beer hunting day. I’m happy to be a beneficiary of Mike’s kindness.

Pour is (what else) hazy. But wow! Haze really pops with some complex citrus aroma that follows on the ensuing flavor. Wonderful sequence of flavors. Initially rolls out sweet orange then a bitter citrus rind. As that bitterness subsides you are left with an underlying dankness of raw resin and some smokiness. If I had to take a swipe – I’d call it a tad bit fizzy and astringent but that would be a petty knock on a classic IPA. Haze by Tree House Brewing is a solid 95 points.
