Hop, Drop ‘N Roll
In a post about Carton’s 077XX, I mentioned an article found on First We Feast that spoke about alternatives to Vermont’s legendary (but extremely limited) Heady Topper. Click Here For That Article . Even though this beer was not mentioned in this article, it certainly fits as another “buzz-worthy” regional offering chasing legendary status via local success. These regional beers are a prize for beer geeks as they can enjoy great local beer and possibly parlay some via trade for other regional gems. This was the case as I ended up with four sixteen ounce cans from Charlotte, North Carolina in exchange for New Jersey’s own Carton 077XX.
Some background facts…Hop, Drop ‘N Roll is a 2014 gold award winner. It also has an alcohol by volume of 7.2% and a robust International Bitting Units score of 81 (medium/strong).
It just takes one sip to realize that Hop, Drop ‘N Roll is truly a world-class beer and certainly can hold its own with the legendary Heady Topper. Lush mouthfeel almost syrupy. Has a massive burst of tropical fruit flavor of pineapple and honey with a wonderful herbal and lemongrass hop profile. One sip sweet, one sip bitter. This is an incredible imperial IPA – 96 points.
