Tasting: September 5, 2014
Style: Imperial IPA
Beer #: 601
KelSo Brewing is from the hands and minds of husband and wife team Kelly Taylor and Sonya Giacobbe. If you haven’t pieced it together this Brooklyn-based brewery gets its name from the combination of the principal’s first names. This comes to me by way of a growler fill from Cable Beverage in Rockland County, NY.
KelSo’s Industrial is certainly industrial strength with vitals that clock in at 100 IBU and a 10% ABV. Pours a rich blood orange and exudes a sweet malt aroma. Industrial delivers massive resinous hops with an ample and fantastic malt base. Hops are coniferous and citric. Sweet honey and fleshy tropical fruit. Reminds a bit of very fresh Hop Slam. Alcohol peeks in a little on the finish. No lingering bitterness as the complex combination of bitter and sweet comes in waves and recedes in harmony.
A terrific start to my next hundred beers. I can’t throw enough superlatives on KelSo’s Industrial IPA. This is a world-class IPA – I love, love, love this beer 95 points.
