Lizard King Pale Ale

Tasting: November 5, 2015
Style: Pale Ale
Beer #: 836
ABV: 6.0%

Lizard King, if nothing else, is a pretty cool beer can. It reminds me of my earliest beer hobby – collecting beer cans. I was probably about fifteen years old and I recall mail ordering cans from the breweries; collecting half rusted gems from along the roadways and asking my dad to buy certain beers because of the cans. I remember him complaining about the terrible beer he had to endure just to satisfy my hobby. How funny that comment is to me now considering he was a Budweiser man. I was drawn to collecting cans because each package was a work of art. Up in my attic sits more than a thousand beer cans waiting to be displayed (ah – someday).

I bought this can of Lizard King as part of a Pipeworks pack at Cable Beverage…one can of Lizard King, One can of Ninja vs. Unicorn 92 points and one bottle of Amarillo.

Lizard King pours a very light straw color and has a wonderful herbal aroma. The flavor is crisp and has a fresh taste. I pick up black tea, lemongrass. Has a tart and clean finish. Lizard King tastes like a sessionable ale in that there isn’t this undertone of juicy sweetness but that’s okay. This is a first class pale ale – 93 points.
