Nimble Giant.

Six months ago, Troegs announced they were going to start canning a brewery favorite called Nimble Giant and it sounded right up my alley. Described as grapefruit, pineapple with honeysuckle and a massive 9.0% ABV. Since it was not on shelves within a week or two, it became a forgotten memory. My friend Mike texted me a photo last week asking if I had tried this beer yet? Another friend handed me a four-pack and told me I needed to try this beer. Two people? I’d probably call that a worthy endorsement. Either that or I was given a mistake.

Love the name. Seems like it suggests an assertive beer. Yet, it would have delicate nuances. And that’s what I found in my first can. First of all, a bright orange color and fragrant fruity aroma.

Finally, my tasting notes.

Well-concealed alcohol.
White wine.
Pineapple.
Fragrant garden.
And in conclusion, Nimble Giant 93 points

How about another beer from Troegs? However, this one is barrel-aged barleywine called Flying Mouflan. Barrel-aged and straight from the Hershey brewery general store. My wife bought it for me while she was traveling through Hershey. She texted and asked “did I want one bottle for $12 or four bottles for $19”. Huh? Due to the massive discounts, I got four. Therefore, I’d better like it as much as I like a bargain. I have had Flying Mouflan – 91 points about five years ago but my tastebud memory has probably long since faded. This one is aged in oak-barrels.

Barrel-Aged Flying Mouflan

This twelve ounce bottle comes with a nice cork and cage presentation. I can pick out a number of flavors – mostly caramel, brown sugar, some raisin and vanilla. In addition, there is a moist mossy earthy woodsy flavor underneath. Mellow bitterness and mellow boozy warmth. While the flavor is excellent, it’s best attribute is that it is really smooth and complex.

In conclusion, Barrel-Aged Flying Mouflan rates 93 points.
