Another couple bonuses from a recent trade.
Pisgah Leaf by Pisgah Brewing – Black Mountain, North Carolina
Tasting: September 26, 2014
Style: Amber Ale
Beer #: 622
Looks like a homemade sticker label and reading a little further I see a charitable connection between this beer by Pisgah Brewing and a group called LEAF. A quick web check and I see that LEAF is an program that matches artists with youth in schools and communities for hands-on workshops, residencies, interactive performances and mentoring. Leaf the beer has some nice caramel aromas as I pour this rich red ale into my oversized brandy snifter. Sweet bread flavors dominates over a watery body. This Leaf lacks any hop character. It’s just eh – 80 points.
Pluff Mud Porter by Holy City Brewing – South Carolina
Tasting: September 27, 2014
Pluff Mud – I love the name of this beer and I love the can design – definitely going into my collection. The can also defines pluff mud: noun, A mixture of dirt and water indigenous to the marshes of the South Carolina Lowcountry, with a distinct odor that’s endearing to locals, but off-putting to tourists and redcoats.
Light roasted flavor with some off-bitterness. Very watery at first and covers up a very harsh flavor. Not impressed 80 points.
