Port Brewing Anniversary

Port Brewing Anniversary.

There are many things that make a good marriage. One explanation that is frequently credited is that the two halves be different and bring complimentary traits to the union. My wife is creative, friendly, a perfectionist and practical, while I am analytical, anti-social, tolerant and impulsive. I wouldn’t have a social circle without my wife and she wouldn’t be able to balance the checkbook (even though she would tell you I was wrong).

Why mention my wife? The beer in front of me Port Brewing Anniversary brings her to mind as we celebrate our own anniversary next week (# 20 on the 27th). Before this beer takes me on another marriage tangent I better drink it.

I could not find the number year of the anniversary, so I had to visit their website to turn up that this is number 6. I also learned they don’t typically use caramel or crystal malts in their beer for fear that their sweetness would interfere with the main event – the hop. They made an exception with this offering in the interest of adding color.

Also from their website is some beer geek information like Port Brewing Anniversary has a 1.090 original gravity (OG). For your reference, water has a gravity of 1.000. My own parameter for a dense beer is 1.070. High density in beer usually equates to high alcohol content and this one has a healthy ABV of 10%.

Wow! This one really is all about the hop. It is bright and crisp with pine, lemon and grapefruit. It’s tucked in the back but there is a nice underlying sweetness of caramel as well. This beer has a medium mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this one and I’ll put Port Brewing Anniversary at 92 points and I’ll put my own anniversary at 100 points!
