Sierra Nevada – Celebration

Tasting: November, 2010
Style: Special/IPA

I guess I’ve become so accustomed to the addition of spice flavoring in seasonal beers (summer or winter) that I was curious on Celebration’s take on a holiday brew. However, I didn’t know their take was simply that they used the season’s first hop growth to make their holiday offering. Seems like they wanted a gimmick – but didn’t want to follow the pack. Everything about this brew I my opinion puts it squarely in the middle when compared to their medium-bodied pale ale (one of my favorites) and their ultra-hoppy Torpedo. The pour, copper colored with off-white head. Excellent lacing. I got floral, citrus aroma and the taste was of sweet caramel finished with what I’ll call medium hoppiness of pine. I liked it and would have this again.

I’d give it an 87

Mike
