Southern Tier – 2X Milk Stout

southern tier 2x stout (c)2012 popsonhops

The other day, I had a stout from Southern Tier called Creme Brule. It was advertised as having lactose sugars (milk sugars). It may very well be that those sugars were the primary reason behind that stout’s beautifully creamy taste and rich texture. This one also advertises itself as having lactose sugars along with two kinds of hops and three types of malts. So, I’m optimistic. My first few sips impression is that this one lacks in creaminess and rich texture. It’s a little fizzy and surprisingly boozy tasting for only being 7.5% ABV. There are the moderate roasted grains with some faint vanilla and sweetness tucked in the background. It’s a worthy effort – but disappointing when compared to the memory of their other offerings. I’ll put it at 82 points.
