Tasting: May 9, 2012
So, here it is…my fifth and final installment in the Black Water Stout series from New York brewer — Southern Tier. Each is released at a different time of year, but you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding any number of them at any decent beer store. My favorite to date — Choklat (92 points). If you like stout and see it — buy it — you won’t regret the recommendation.
The label gives out a lot of information:
Plato: 25 degrees (dense)
made with Jamaican roasted coffee and bittersweet Belgian chocolate
The label also describes this as a combination of the best flavors of their chocolate stout (Choklat) and their coffee stout (Jah-Va). It pours rich black with very little head. Coffee and chocolate are definitely on the aroma. Flavors are a swirling combination of dark chocolate, subtle coffee, treacle and vanilla. A little booze on the finish — but medium in body. I’m enjoying it — but Choklat is still my favorite. This one is certainly enjoyable and I’ll give this one 90 points.
