Tasting: July 30, 2012
Here’s another brewery that I’ve been curious to sample Gary’s Craft Beer Monday saved me the trouble when they poured a few Shiners.
Ruby Red Bird — smells of very nice grapefruit and ginger. No surprise as it is brewed with these two ingredients. The first sip was quite nice with both the ginger and grapefruit shining through. I could see myself enjoying this on a Summer day, maybe with some sushi. Further in – it got off track as in acrid. I’d put it at 80.
Blonde – I was going to pass on this one. I wish I did, it lacked what I look for most in a beer — flavor. I’d put it right next to Coors Light – 62 points.
Bock — expected some nice malts but didn’t get any on the nose and really none in the flavor as well. Just too light for a bock. 70 points.
Wild Hare — I thought they did everything big in Texas, I guess that didn’t mean this pale ale. I get some flinty along with earthy, but not much else. There are much better pale ales out there – 72 points.
