St. Bernadus – Abt 12

Tasting: February 5, 2011
Style: Belgian

I was on a mission to buy some Russian River Damnation from Cold Spring Beverage in Yardley. So, I was in a Belgian mood. I’ve had Abt 12 before and admittedly, it’s a favorite. I like it because it represents to me a perfectly balanced beer…In simple terms – you can easily taste the sweet malt, bitter hop and fruity yeast at the same time and each taste does not overpower each of these characteristics. This latest tasting didn’t change my mind at all. I still love it and give it 92 points.

By the way, I’m happy to report that along with a case of Damnation, I procured the last inventory bottle of Russian River’s Consecration. I’m a novice when it comes to Belgian sour ale — but I’m willing to give it a go. Stay tuned.
