Tasting: January 27, 2011
Style: Double IPA
A real find at only $5.50/bomber from Shangy’s. I see some floating debris in the bottle and that had me a little concerned. Put the pour explains things — forget hazy – this one is outright cloudy. A beautiful bright coppery/orange color. Nice pillowy head that lingers. The nose is sweet and citrusy. This one is really complex in flavor. I get herbs, pepper and sweet malt and a beautiful hop finish that lingers nicely on the palate. I like the fact that they don’t completely overpower with the hops. The hop finish in particular reminds me of an English bitter ale.
I like it enough to give it a 92
Doubling back on this one. I’m having one right now and it seems like a totally different experience. Hops seems a bit more overpowering this time around and the sweet malt is the subdued flavor. All goes to show that tasting experiences have a lot to do with the circumstances.
