Tasting: January 6, 2011
I was somewhat expecting a subtle smokey nose and flavor from Smoked Porter but none evident. I also suspected that smoked must mean roasted but again not really. Stone is a favorite of mine, probably because they do beer in a “big” way. This one isn’t very big but I guess they reserve that for their notable stouts. Smoked Porter has the typical characteristics — roasted malt, light coffee notes. I don’t get any of the complex flavors described on the bottle (licorice, or the dark fruit whatever dark fruit is…raisins? plums?). Thin mouthfeel. I’ll just call this one typical and unremarkable.
I’ll give it 81
