Tasting: March 1, 2011
All hail the seasonal release of Troegs Nugget Nectar…always in high demand, I picked up a six pack at Stew Leonards in Clifton a couple of Mondays ago. They had ample quantity on display at least 25 cases…I went back that same week on Thursday for another shopping trip and they had about 5 cases left. It would be a stong bet it was gone by that weekend. A cult favorite, and I’m a loyal subject. My favorite Troegs offering. By experience, my IBU “sweet spot” is right around 85- 90 IBU and this one comes in at 93-ish — but I don’t mind one bit. It pours a reddish brown with moderate carbonation (not as fine or creamy as I like it). Roasted malt on the nose and beautifully balanced with piney, citrusy hops that simply don’t overpower. Really a well balanced IPA. I give it 92 points. By the way, at $5.99/bomber — that’s a bargain these days.
