Venus, The Bringer of Peace by Bell’s

After having the first beer in Bell’s planetary series – Mars – I said that I wouldn’t check back in on the series until they released Saturn. However, I received this bottle of Venus, The Bringer of Peace as a bonus so, why not. As a refresher, Bell’s Brewery seven-part beer series is inspired by British composer Gustav Holst’s century-old orchestral suite also collectively known as “The Planets”. As was the order of Holst’s suite – here is the order of Bell’s release:

“Mars, The Bringer of War” – Double IPA
“Venus, The Bringer of Peace” – A Blonde Ale brewed with honey, apricot, vanilla and cardamom
“Mercury, The Winged Messenger” – A Belgian Single
“Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity” – A malt forward Brown Ale
“Saturn, The Bringer of Old Age” – A Bourbon Barrel-aged Barleywine
“Uranus, The Magician” – Black Double IPA
“Neptune, The Mystic” – A beer inspired by Dr. Bell’s Medicinal Stout, one of Larry Bell’s homebrews that also helped inspire Eccentric Ale

As you can see from above, Venus the Bringer of Peace sports a list of complex ingredients. Out of the gate it brings piercing sauvignon grapes, cardamom and clove. Not a favorite – 78 points.
