War Elephant by Rushing Duck

The name of this beer brings me back to my favorite subject in elementary school – world history. I loved reading about conquests and the changing geography of the empires of Egypt, Persia, Athens, Rome and on and on. One story I recall was of Hannibal – a military leader of Carthage (what is now northern Africa/Spain). The Romans expected that any attack on their peninsula would come by sea because no one would be fool hearty enough to cross the treacherous Alps bordering the north. Hannibal did cross the Alps with “war elephants”. Although Hannibal started his journey across the Alps with about forty elephants only twenty famished elephants survived the mountain range journey.

This War Elephant by Rushing Duck was a growler purchase in Rockland County. I was particularly interested in giving it a try as the brewery is within an hour of my house in New Jersey. I’ve heard excellent things about the brewery but haven’t had the opportunity to pay them a visit.

Truly citrus flavors loaded with grapefruit and tangerine. Not so much in the way of sweetness. All in all War Elephant is a good IPA and I’ll put it at 90 points.
