What’s interesting about Xocoveza from Stone Brewing:

· Another collaboration from Stone involving a winning homebrew recipe. This time it’s Chris Banker’s interpretation of Mexican hot chocolate.

· As has become customary, Stone enlisted another brewer – Insurgente of Tijuana to partner on bringing Xocoveza to the masses.

· Made with cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla, coffee beans, nutmeg, lactose and flaked oats and dried peppers.

· 8.1% ABV, 51 IBU

· Name: Pronounced Sho-Co-Vay-Za. No explanation given on the name but I find that xoco is Mexican slang for “little sister”. Veza is the last part of cerveza (beer in spanish).

· Available: across Stone’s footprint of 40 plus states and territories. Available in NJ – but you may have to ask.

· Other acclaim: 97 points Beer Advocate, 99 points rate Beer.

Xocoveza is amazingly complex, the featured ingredients shine through brightly. a bit watery and could be a bit creamier. I’m not as gaga as the beer communities but I’ll still put Xocoveza at 90 points.
